Be open-minded. If you already considering dating or have been dating someone who is handicapped, then you must be. Despite that, sometimes we do tend to forget. However, that also means that you should not judge them or their ability to be independent just because of their handicap. Just let them open your eyes.
Be respectful. This goes along with being open-minded and further. Being respectful also means do not assume that you will have to take care of them. Being respectful means that understand they are they're own person and should not be treated any differently than anyone else.
Adapt and support. Often times, your partner will have a different way of doing in things because of their disability. Adapt to the changes, and be supportive. That doesn't mean holding their hands through every little thing. It just mean let them do what they need.
Be mindful. Be aware of how you and your partner are acting. That does not mean having to walk on egg shells, but don't over do asking questions or being to overactive in trying to help. Don't over think anything too much. Often times most will not be offended if you ask question. It's natural to be curious about things you don't know. Choose your words wisely.
With all of this in mind, handicapped dating shouldn't be any different than a normal relationship. There will a lot of ups and down. There will be a lot fun times and not so fun times. Handicapped girls can act just as crazy and irrational as ones without. Handicapped guys can be just as much of an insensitive jerk as a normal one.
